ペリー・コモ 12年5月18日アメリカ・ペンシルベニア州生まれ。あたたかいバリトンの歌声で広く親しまれたポピュラー・シンガーの大御所。36年、トロンボーン奏者のテッド・ウィームスのバンドに参加し、彼らのラジオ番組に出演したことで 大きなブレイクのチャンスを掴む。42年の解散と共にコモも脱退したが、翌年<RCAレコード>と契約。「Long Ago And Far Away」「I'm Gonna Love That Gal」「If I Loved You」などの小ヒットを連続した後、45年にショパンの「ポロネーズ 変イ長調」を基調にした「Till The End Of Time」でついにUSのチャートの頂点を獲得。ミュージシャンとして比較的遅いスタートを切ったものの、40年代後半からは「Did You Ever Get That Feeling In The Moonlight?」「Dig You Later(A Hubba-Hubba-Hubba)」「All Through The Day」「They Say It's Wonderful」などを始めとした、実に多くの大ヒットを記録している。また、ラジオ番組のレギュラー出演を頻繁にこなして人気を得ると同時に、4作の映画「Something for The Boys」(44年)、「Doll Face, If I'm Lucky」(46年)、「Words And Music」(48年)も完成させている。安らかでリラックス感のあるスタイルと愛嬌たっぷりのユーモアはさらに人々を惹きつけ、50年代に出現したテレビという新媒体でその魅力を大きく開花。その当時爆発したロックの到来にも影響されることなく、以降もビッグ・ヒットを連発し続けたのは天晴れというほかないだろう。60年代に入るとセミ・リタイアをしているが、70年には20年来のライヴを行い、アルバム『Live At The International Hotel Las Vegas』をリリース。その後世界ツアーを展開し世間を驚かせ、アルマンド・マンサネーロ作曲/シド・ウェイン作詞によるメキシカンなナンバー「愛の夢(イッツ・インポシブル)」で久々のヒットを出した。ちなみに最盛期のペリー・コモのレコード・セールスは6000万枚以上であり、20枚のゴールド・ディスクの保持者であった。
