Elvis Presley / エルヴィス・プレスリー(1935-1977)

アメリカのポピュラー音楽が生んだ戦後最大のスター。Rock'n'Rollを世界に知らしめた最大の功労者。アメリカが生んだ20世紀を代表する大スター。アメリカの象徴。'54年アメリカ南部のローカル・レーベル“Sun”にてレコーディングした「That's All Right」が脚光を浴び、序々に新しい音楽であるRock'n'Rollの担い手として頭角を現す。'56年に大手RCAと契約し「ハートブレイク・ホテル」Heartbreak Hotel でメジャー・デビュー。これが全米1位となり～以降「ハウンド・ドッグ」Hound Dog、「冷たくしないで」Don't Be Cruel、「監獄ロック」Jailhouse Rock などRock'n'Rollの歴史に残る数々のヒットを放った。また一方で、バラード作品の「ラブ・ミー・テンダー」Love Me Tender にて新機軸を見せたり、同名映画にてハリウッド・デビューも飾り、音楽/映画の両面で大活躍を見せた。
