アメリカの作曲家と作詞家。
バートン・レーンの代表作品はミュージカルFinian's Rainbow(フィニアンの虹)。(1947年初演のブロードウェイ・ミュージカル1968年の映画。ワーナーブラザーズ・セブンアーツ製作) 。

エドガー・Yipsel・ハールブルク(1896-1981)

ニューヨークで生まれる。アメリカの作詞家。
ミュージカルや映画音楽の作詞をてがけ、Vernon Dukeとコンビを組んだのApril In Parisや、Harold Arlenとコンビを組んだIt's Only a Paper Moon、The Wizard of Oz (オズの魔法使い)の中のOver the Rainbowは代表曲。なかでもOver the Rainbow1939年のアカデミー歌曲賞を受賞している。

Old Devil Moonは、

1947年に初演された Broadwayミュージカル『Finian's Rainbow』で使われた曲。
その後、何度も再演され、1968年にはFred Astaire（フレッド・アステア69歳）の最後のミュージカル主演で映画化された。

ここでのロリンズは、ライヴということもあって自由奔放なソロを繰り広げる。そして、ロリンズを燃え上がらせるエルヴィンの攻めのドラミングも凄まじい。両者が火花を散らす< 12 >「Sonnymoon for Two」などは、手に汗握るスリリングな瞬間だ。同じ曲でも、昼と夜ではまったく演奏内容が違う。ジャズは即興が命といわれるが、ロリンズはそれを見事に実践している。まさしく歴史的名盤だ。なお、すべて同じ日の演奏なのに2種類のリズム隊が参加しているのは、昼のステージはドナルド・ベイリー＆ピート・ラロッカ組、夜はウィルバー・ウェア＆エルヴィン・ジョーンズ組が共演したからである。（市川正二）
